I built the expense tracker I couldn't find.
Hi, I'm Ramana Chary. By day I'm a senior full stack developer at WODO, a startup in Bengaluru, with three years of hands-on experience building web applications. Vyaya is what I build for myself, and I write the guides on this site.
- 01 · The itch
I couldn't find an app I enjoyed using
I never set out to build an expense tracker. I tried several on the Play Store and kept running into the same problems.
Cluttered screens
Every app buried the one thing I opened it for.
Too many ads
Tracking money shouldn't mean watching ads.
Features I never used
Bloat I had to scroll past just to log a coffee.
Missing basics
The simple things I actually needed weren't there.
- 02 · Built for me
So I built one for myself
Something simple, clean, and shaped around how I wanted to track my own spending. I had no plan to release it. It was just for me.
- 03 · The nudge
Friends asked why it wasn't on the Play Store
I showed it to a few friends. They liked it, and they wanted to know why I was keeping it to myself. That question changed how I saw the project.
- 04 · Launch
So I published it
What started as a personal tool became Vyaya: free, ad-free, and never asking for your bank login.
- 05 · Ever since
Built with the people who use it
I listen to users, fix rough edges, and improve Vyaya from real feedback. There's plenty left I want to make better, and what you tell me decides what comes next.
Try the app that started it all
Free, ad-free, and no bank login. Tell me what to improve next.
About the guides
The guides on this site are general information, not financial advice. Where one compares apps, Vyaya is among the options and is labelled as mine. Spotted a mistake? Email support.vyaya@gmail.com.
